Most Ancient Prince Hall Grand Court Heroines of Jericho

HEROINES OF JERICHO
The Heroines of Jericho made its first appearance in Illinois around 1855. During Slavery, the Heroines in Illinois were very helpful at Underground Railroad stops to the states up North. Brother Alexander Clark set up the first Court of Heroines of Jericho in Illinois on September 1, 1863. The first Court was named Shiloh #1 of Springfield and was followed by Esther #2 – Chicago, Charles Sumner #3 – Cairo, St Mary #4 – Peoria, Queen Elizabeth #5 – Brooklyn, Queen Esther #7 – Moline and Mt. Olive #33 – Galesburg.
Brother William L. Darrow, the third Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Illinois received a certificate from the Grand Encampment to organize Courts in the State of Illinois. Seven courts being organized, Grand Master Benjamin F. Rogers held a convention in the City of Chicago in 1877 to organize a Grand Court. With all of the aforementioned Courts present, the officers of the first Grand Court were elected with Agnes Moody, Grand Most Ancient Matron; James H. Washington, Grand Most Worthy Joshua; H. E. Vaughn, Grand Senior Matron; L. Scott, Grand Treasurer; Rebecca D. Boone, Grand Secretary; and Benjamin F. Rogers, Grand Superintendent.
From the time of its organizing in 1877, the Grand Court in Illinois has continued to progress. The Grand Court joined the General Conference of Grand Courts, Heroines of Jericho in 1926. The Grand Court of Illinois has been honored to serve the General Conference of Grand Courts in various leadership roles. In addition, the Most Ancient Prince Hall Grand Court, State of Illinois has been instrumental in directly and indirectly organizing courts of Heroines of Jericho in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Indiana and has remained an advocate of continued growth.
